Becoming a Catholic

Thinking of becoming a Catholic?

Are you interested in the Catholic Faith and want to find out more? Becoming a Catholic can be one of the most joyous experiences in life. There are 1.2 billion Catholics worldwide, all members of God’s family!

If you live in or around Pocklington, your local Catholic Church is St Mary & St Joseph on Union Street. The Church is open to everyone and you will be most welcome to pay a visit and chat to Fr Michael Sellers or members of the Congregation.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Catholic Faith, there are many excellent online resources. The following link – http://www.rcia.org.uk/enquirers/

Please take your time and have a look but do not be daunted! It really is very simple. The Catholic Church is Jesus Christ’s earthly guide to heaven. It is a world family sharing one belief so that wherever you go to Mass throughout the world the same miraculous event is being commemorated in the same way and that event is Jesus Christ’s resurrection from the dead.

If you want to find out more about the Catholic Faith here in Pocklington

The parish uses some excellent material to help explain the Catholic Faith to those interested in finding out more.

A very good starting point is a small booklet called ‘Credo – the Catholic Faith explained’. It is a publication by the Catholic Truth Society.

The booklet is divided into four main sections;

Creed (Credo is Latin for Creed),

Sacraments,

Morals,

Prayer.

Anyone wanting to know more about the Faith will find these sections provide an invaluable starting point but it is most likely that he or she will want to talk to someone, perhaps every step of the way!

You can call Fr James on 01759 303126 or email him at pocklingtoncatholicchurch@rcdmidd.org.uk

You will be made most welcome!
